Rapid Intervention

Every Firefighter faces the possibility of becoming trapped, entangled, lost and disoriented, caught by flashover or rollover, or running out of air. When any of these situations occurs, quick and decisive action is necessary. The best thing that can happen is if the Firefighter in danger saves themselves. In other situations they may be unprepared or unable to save themselves. Other Firefighters must be able to rescue or offer assistance to the person in trouble.

The Rapid Intervention Team is a team of Firefighters whose sole purpose is to locate and rescue any endangered, trapped, or missing Firefighters. They may also perform tasks that aid and speed the rescue or assistance of a Firefighter, and improve fire ground safety. When they are called on to rescue a Firefighter in danger, they are going in harms way, entering in the worst conditions possible. They must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide rescue or assistance, as well as the training to be able to solve problems and rescue themselves if needed.

The Rapid Intervention course curriculum consists of 4-1 day, 8 hour sessions, that can be delivered individually, in progressive order, or combined together to provide complete Rapid Intervention Training.

Sessions one, two & three maybe offered at your facility.

Session 1 - Firefighter Survival and Self-Rescue Skills.

Every firefighter faces the possibility of becoming disoriented, having an SCBA emergency, or having to escape to safety. In addition, firefighters performing Rapid Intervention will have to go into a high hazard environment that can deteriorate quickly, making it necessary for them to self-rescue. When a fire ground emergency occurs that endangers your life, quick and decisive actions are necessary to ensure your safety and survival.  Survival and Self-Rescue skills are the most important type of rescue skills to learn.  These actions and skills must be learned and practice before the emergency, so that you know exactly what to do, and perform efficiently when the emergency does occur.  This session provides students with the knowledge required for fire ground Safety/Size -up, and skills required for Self -Rescue, Emergencies Escape, and Survival, during a fire ground emergency.
